Grove Residence | Heritage Renovation & Contemporary Addition, Hawthorn
Chadwick Architects and Interiors design for Grove Residence is for a heritage renovation and contemporary rear extension located on Hawthorn Grove, Hawthorn, inner-east Melbourne. The project sought to sensitively joins a Victorian-era heritage home with a bold yet timeless modern addition, creating a resolved dialogue between historical architecture and contemporary living.
Grove Residence weaves a bold contemporary addition into the fabric of a cherished Hawthorn heritage home. The new rear volume, clad in pale brick with full-height glazing and refined bronze fins, rises quietly above its Victorian neighbours, its restrained geometry earning rather than demanding attention.
At ground level, the boundary between inside and out dissolves entirely. Sliding glass walls open the living and dining spaces to a sculpted garden designed for both retreat and gathering, a lap pool tucked among Japanese maples, layered planting beds, and a manicured lawn anchoring the composition.
